Life Coaching Versus Therapy

In my opinion, the best way to explain coaching versus therapy is on a continuum. Think of a scale from -10 to +10. If someone has been feeling somewhere between a -10 to a -1, they may not be functioning the way they normally do and could benefit from a therapist to at least get them back to 0. A therapist may dive deep into your past, talk about mental health conditions, and the like.

A life coach is qualified to serve people who are at least at a 0 on this continuum. It is certainly possible for a client to work with both a therapist and a life coach at the same time. Focusing mainly on the present and the future, the coach’s goal is to help the client move up the scale so they can not just survive, but actually thrive.
