1. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

Students sometmes dismiss Umaine as being “too far” or “in the middle of nowhere.” Neither are true. Orono is a cute little college town and Bangor, which is only 15-minutes away offers much more. And for the outdoorsy type, there is hiking, skiing, paddling, and much more all year round.

2. BLACK BEAR SPIRIT

At Maine, it’s all about hockey! And the Black Bears are regulars in the Frozen Four.

3. SUSTAINABILITY

There a loads of majors for the student looking to study the environment: Earth and Climate Sciences, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Marine Science, Parks, Recreation and Tourism, and Wildlife Ecology. Many concentrations are available in these majors as well.

Fun fact: UMaine is home to the first 3-D printed home in the USA.

The new engineering building has teaching labs for mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering technology.

All across campus you will find students working in one of the many collaborative workspaces. These are found everywhere from academic buildings, to residence halls, dining facilities, and even outside. To add to the appeal of these common spaces, in many you will find fireplaces (or outdoor fire pits). Talk about a cozy study environment!

2. Green Space and Access to the Outdoors

Quinnipiac prides itself in the beauty of its campus. This is evident in the immaculate buildings, and perfectly maintained green spaces all around campus. If you take a stroll through Mt. Carmel, you will find several ponds, fountains, quads, and fire pits. Right across the street from the Admissions building, you will find Sleeping Giant State Park - a popular hiking spot with views of the surrounding area from a “castle” at the summit! 

3. M&T Bank Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Quinnipiac has its very own Shark-Tank-like program in its M&T Bank Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship! Students are encouraged to bring forward entrepreneurial ideas and present them to faculty, who can choose to back a student’s project, and help them see it through to fruition. They even have a Pitch Competition, where students put their projects up to a panel of judges, and can win funding to pursue their endeavors.

4. Career Development Services

Career preparation is a big focus at QU! There is a career development office within every School. The Career and Experiential Learning Lab helps students write resumes, practice interviews, and find a best-fit career path. Quinnipiac is partnered with Handshake, which is a networking program specifically for college students, where businesses can recruit students for internships and full-time jobs.

5. Three Campuses

Quinnipiac is composed of 3 campuses: Mt. Carmel, York Hill, and North Haven.

The main campus, Mt. Carmel, is specifically for underclassman students. Upperclassmen find their housing at York Hill, which is just a 5 minute drive from Mt. Carmel. Graduate programs are housed at the North Haven campus.

There are shuttles from Mt. Carmel to York Hill about every 5 minutes, and from Mt. Carmel to North Haven every hour. Students are also able to shuttle into North Haven on the weekends for all of their shopping needs.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.The brand new University Center opened in 2023 and is the student hub on campus. Within the University Center you can find multiple dining options including Starbucks and Jersey Mikes. There are multiple lounge areas for studying or spending time with friends. Student organizations are housed here. Many social events such as concerts and plays take place here as well.

2. ESports Team

Seton Hall’s varsity esports team competes in the Big East division and has multiple championships in League of Legends and Rocket League. Seton Hall has a dedicated Gaming Lab for the team to practice, but it is also available for students who want to play casually as well! 

3. First 56 Days

During the first 56 days of the fall semester, the officers and organizations on campus host events every day and night to engage students and help foster a sense of community on campus. These events may include things like workshops, games, and trips to explore South Orange and nearby NYC.

4. Student Success Team

Every student at Seton Hall is matched with three advisors:

-Student Success Advisor: supports students with logistical situations such as course selection and registration

-Academic Advisor: assigned from the college in which the student is enrolled and helps in developing an academic plan

1. THE GREAT OUTDOORS

One of Mesa’s most popular organizations is the Outdoor Program. This organization is always scheduling fantastic trips for students and also has inexpensive equipment rentals. While on campus in Grand Junction, you’ll find great views of the Colorado mountains. You can access even more cool sites since you’re 40 minutes from skiing and 1 hour and 45 minutes from the scenic town of Moab, Utah.

2. NEW BUILDINGS EVERYWHERE

It’s quite apparent that Mesa has been making significant financial investments in its facilities to give students hands-on experiences. Mesa bought out a former hospital and converted it into clinical and lab spaces for health science students. The university’s engineering building has modern equipment, and students can earn their engineering degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder while staying on Mesa’s campus. There’s a beautiful student-run hotel and restaurant where students can get hands-on hospitality experience. We’re not even scratching the surface here!

3. SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT

A common thread during our two-day visit was an atmosphere of support. The student tour guides cared about the school. The university’s president has a one-hour open office hour where students can drop in to talk. The largest class size at Mesa is 60 students, but most classes are capped at 40. Generally, the higher-level classes will have about 12-15 students. The professors are much more committed to teaching students than their own research.

4. NOT ONE, BUT TWO SCHOOLS?!

The university has a formal partnership with Western Colorado Community College (WCCC), a seven-minute drive from Mesa. WCCC students can earn their associate degrees in fields like culinary, aviation, and even winemaking. They can also take classes and live at Mesa to earn their bachelor’s degree.

Out-of-state students looking for a bargain will find Colorado Mesa’s tuition, room, and board to be a bargain! The listed price is anywhere from $37,000-44,000, with the possibility of earning up to $6,000 per year in scholarship money if you’re out-of-state.

Sports Illustrated has called Appalachian State’s 2007 season-opening upset over Michigan at the Big House “The Greatest Upset of Them All.” But that’s not all… In 2022, App State took down #6 Texas A&M with a shocking 17-14 win in College Station. It’s no surprise that Mountaineers pack the stadium.

2. BOONE, NC!

It’s smaller than Asheville but just as hip! Boone boasts excellent restaurants, breweries, and shopping. Our favorites? Anna Bananas, when you can save 10% on your consignment purchase if you do a dance, the Lost Province Brewing Co. (the wood-fired soft pretzel with pimento cheese, yum!), and the Broyhill Music Center for live music.

And the best part, the campus is within walking distance of it all!

3. PSYCHOLOGY

One of the most popular majors for Mountaineers, the Psychology department boasts SEVEN concentrations from which to choose: Business, Education Studies, Health Studies, Human Services, Natural Science, Social Science, and Sustainability.

4. SKIING!

YES! Skiing in North Carolina. Boone is flanked by two ski resorts, Appalachian Ski Mountain and the Beech Mountain Resort. There are also tons of hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, horseback riding, and camping options to placate even the most outdoorsy student!
